Ambrosia Desserts
While we can’t be entirely certain what the gods ate and drank in ancient Greece, we do know that in the Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite, the goddess prepares herself for a ‘dalliance’ with the assistance of ambrosia and in a scene from the Iliad the sea-nymph Thetis uses the ambrosia and nectar to preserve the body of the dead warrior Patrocius.
Now that is a brand stretch!
These mythical tales clearly captured the imagination of those who introduced modern day Ambrosia to the world circa 1917.
Over the next century it grew to
become one of Britain’s best known and loved brands – synonymous with creamed rice pudding and custard. Yum…yum.
Sadly in it’s recent past, Ambrosia
was neglected and this much loved brand was ‘orphaned’ in
2003 – a casualty of brand rationalisation in a
global market place.
Thankfully Premier Foods came to
the rescue. They believed in the brand’s potential and bought it in 2003.
Since then CSR has worked with the
Ambrosia team on an ambitious NPD programme. New
products have been introduced. New formats are
now available and new advertising is in production.
The Brand is buzzing.
Sales have gone through the roof. – Up 10 % in the last year!
Aphrodite would have been proud and delighted.
